Did you know applying sunscreen is not enough to shield you from the harmful effects of the sun? According to a study published by the National Library of Medicine1, 50% of the sunlight reaching Earth’s surface is visible light – most of which is absorbed by the skin regardless of how much SPF you use.
It’s impossible to avoid sunlight entirely. And cumulative exposure to the sun adds up – going to the store, going to your car, or going to your mailbox won’t give you a sunburn, but doing it for 40 years will age your skin faster than anticipated, causing severe sun damage.
According to a study in International Journal of Cosmetic Science1 , repeated exposure to visible light leads to more skin damage over time.
Another study, published in Oxidative Medicine and Cellular Longevity2 in 2015, suggests that exposure to visible light can stimulate the production of free radicals in the skin, which can accelerate the appearance of aging. Free radicals are responsible for degenerating your skins collagen causing wrinkles, saggy skin, and blemishes.
Additionally, another factor that plays a significant role in aging is air pollution. A study published by MDPI3 in 2022 states “Environmental factors such as sun irradiation (ultraviolet, visible and infra-red components) and air pollutants, influence skin aging and skin diseases.”
Both visible light and air pollution cause plenty of damage independently, but in tandem, accelerate the process of aging for your skin. A study published by MDPI4 stated that “the hazardous effects of air pollutants on the skin are amplified by the action of the sun.”
Keep Your Skin Protected
Although you can’t avoid air pollution and visible light, you can help your skin protect itself from its harmful effects, as well as UVA sunlight, by addressing the issue of free radicals.
This is accomplished by taking antioxidant properties called Polypodium Leucotomos or PLE, which has been studied for over 25 years.
A study published by the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology found that PLE may be helpful as a secondary line of defense to protect against the effects of light when used with traditional methods of sun protection.
One proprietary form of PLE, found only in Heliocare®, has been studied extensively by leading American and international dermatologists for its ability to resist free radicals, leading to positive effects on the skin*.*These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
Heliocare has been on the market for several years now. It has been used safely – and successfully – for tens of thousands of users. Heliocare has even been voted Best Beauty Buy award winner by the prestigious beauty magazine InStyle for two years in a row, and it was awarded Prevention Magazine’s 2022 Healthy Skin Award for Best Skin Supplement and Shape Magazine’s 2022 Skin Award for Best Sun Protection. It’s no wonder a recent study – survey conducted between Nov. 2019 and Feb 2020, with 950 respondents – even found 87% of dermatologists surveyed recommend Heliocare to their patients!*
